The South Australian Grower -- April 2010
A RANGER for the
price of an ATV?
For the same price as a big-bore ATV, why not buy a Polaris Ranger 400? At
$13,995 driveaway, the Ranger 400 is more affordable than many big-bore
ATVs on the market. But with the Polaris Ranger 400, you can tow more,
carry more and seat two -- it's a screaming bargain by comparison. With
Ranger 400 you get more done, more quickly and in more comfort.
Leading USA manufacturer Polaris has dominated the market for heavy duty
farm utility vehicles since it released the Ranger 6X6 back in 1998. Since
then the men from Minnesota have launched 7 big-bore utilities with class-
leading towing, carrying and seating capacities. Now in 2010, Polaris will
also attack the midsize utility market with a more compact Ranger, perfect
for orchards, vineyards and acreage.
True to its heritage, Ranger 400 has the strength of a Pit-bull, towing and
carrying more other mid-size utility vehicles -- but with all the comforts
and ride quality that has helped make Polaris the world's largest Off Road
So how much smaller is it? Ranger 400 is 16 cm shorter and features 8 cm
less width and height. This compact size, when combined with the tighter
turning circles possible with Turf-Mode, makes it the ideal size for orchards
and vineyards. Despite the smaller size, there is still plenty of room to seat
The safety focused will love the Ranger 400. As with all the 2010 Rangers,
Ranger 400 features USA OSHA* Certified Roll-Over Protection Structure
(ROPS). In addition, an exclusive of the Ranger 400 is the optional Speedkey
system. This simple accessory enables the owner to limit the top speed to
37 km/h, just by deciding which key to give the driver.
This tough and versatile vehicle still tows more and carries more than
competitors with a class leading towing capacity of 567 kg and a payload
of 453.6 kg. This includes the exclusive Lock & Ride Cargo System which
features a 226.8 kg carrying capacity.
All of this is powered by a 455cc high output engine and a top speed of
64.4 km. The Ranger 400 boasts 29 hp, the highest horsepower engine in its
class, to provide plenty of get-up-and-go for both work and leisure.
Features that have been carried through to the Ranger 400 include On
Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Turf Mode. The On-Demand AWD
ensures the Ranger 400 can tackle the muddiest and rockiest terrains, while
Turf Mode means
