Riverland field days
Something new and something brewed ....
THE Riverland Field Days had growers and producers from all around the area and South Australia showcase their produce
and products or turn up to see what is on the market. MEG MURDOCH caught up with some of the action.
Colin Beer with his wife Maggie, second from right, with Noelle and Ian Tolley. Maggie was
the celebrity chef at the field days and appeared at cooking demonstrations on Thursday.
Noelle and Ian who have known Maggie for a number of years started producing and selling
cumquarts after some pushing on Maggie's behalf.

The team at Enviromist, Berri, started developing this onion sprayer
about two years ago after a client sought one at the Riverland Field
Days. The three-armed sprayer has a total of 18 spray units and is
designed to reduce spray drift and maximise chemical efficiency.
Enviromist's Chris Vasey is pictured with the sprayer that is currently
being trialled on Aaron Habey's farm at Walker Flat, and should be
commercially availabe in 2011.
Not your usual place to be growing grapes, but Kaye
Aldersey, pictured, with her husband Chris and daughter
Kirsten have a small vineyard on the sandy loams at
Tintinara. They have the only vineyard in the area and they
handpick their grapes with the help of the Tintinara Action
Club and the local football and golf clubs. Alderseys
Vineyard produces Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot and
a Shiraz/Merlot blend. Kaye travels to a number of country
shows and field days to showcase their wines.
Greg and Jane Salter, Blanchetown, are the third
generation to grow grapes in the area, but in 2002 they
introduced their own wine label and opened up for
cellar door sales. Since beginning their label, they have
won a number of awards, including first place in the
New York Tasting in 2003 for their Merlot Cabernet
2002, and were the Blue-Gold Winner with their
Moorunde Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2008.
