The South Australian Grower – September 2011
Olive industry ‘restores trust’
❏ By LISA ROWNTREE
THE 2011 National Olive
Industr y Conference and
Trade Exhibition will cover
topics crucial to the survival of the
industry and highlight Australia’s
reforming role in the sector.
The event will be at Wangaratta,
Victoria, on October 25 and 26.
Centred on the theme of
Restoring Trust in the Trade of Olive
Oil, the conference will focus on
one of the industry’s major con-
cerns which is the global devalua-
tion of both the image and price of
olive oil, particularly extra virgin
olive oil, and its flow-on effect on
other olive products.
Despite a bumper cropping sea-
son, small, medium and large olive
producers in Australia still struggle
to get the best profit outcomes. To
work out answers, the conference
will bring together producers from
around the country and overseas to
hear from experts and those in the
thick of it.
They will discuss ideas about how
to restore olive oil to its rightful
place in high-value food culture.

olive sector to stay on track was to
always hold on to its focus on qual-

Australian olive industry as

major producing countries present-
ed major challenges,” he said.
“I am proud of the fact that
despite all the pressures, Australia
has never lost its belief that quality
and authenticity are paramount to
the success of the olive industry.”
Conference host Olive Producers
of North East Victoria has a record
of prominence and success in the
region and hopes the event will
shine the light on a bright future.
President of AOA Victoria Charles
Meo said visitors to Wangaratta
would not only enjoy the Alpine
Region but learn how to manoeuvre
“The olive regions of Victoria will
come together to share ideas and
present united views on matters of
importance,” he said.
The conference will also discuss
the merits of forming a New World
Olive Alliance to address common
Lending a global flavour this year
will be a contingent from the
United States and a host of other
international speakers. At the trade
exhibition, producers will have the
opportunity to talk about produc-
tion issues with experts.

annual AOA Awards Presentation
Dinner on Tuesday, October 25.
