The South Australian Grower – February 2013
d’VineRipe takes giant leap
THE $25-million Stage 3
expansion of d’VineRipe Pty
Ltd’s tomato glasshouse
facility in South Australia began
in February last year and by
Christmas, the first tomato crop
har vest was under way.
The 27-hectare high-tech
glasshouse at Two Wells, north of
Adelaide, is among the few in the
southern hemisphere using inno-
vative pad and fan climate control
At full capacity, the $90-million
facility will produce 15,000
tonnes of truss tomatoes annually.
d’VineRipe general manager
Jon Jones said Stage 3 – a 10-
hectare expansion – represented
significant improvements on pre-
vious stages, most notably water
“Previously, pure condensated
water produced as a result of
heating the glasshouse was divert-
ed to ponds where it evaporated.
During Stage 3 construction, we
implemented new water har vest-
ing systems to collect and reuse
that water. We are now capturing
10,000-15,000 litres of extra
water a day to reuse on the crop,”
Stage 1, a $35-million develop-
ment, opened in 2007 followed
by Stage 2, a $30m expansion in
