Silvan G2 Supaflo
puts technology first
By DAVID EAST
IMPROVED accuracy, timeliness, safety and
efficiency for vineyard and orchard opera-
tors are features of the recently-released
Silvan Supaflo G2 sprayer.
The company says the new sprayer represents
the most significant improvement to and
enhancement of orchard spraying technology
and equipment in Australia for about the past
Silvan managing director Steven Lelli says his
research engineers started with a clean sheet of
paper and went out and talked to growers
across Australia, investigating their needs and
They also appraised the dealer and reseller
"It has taken about 18 months, an investment
of more than $1 million and a strong sense of
innovation for the G2 sprayer to evolve," he said.
"With its distinctive new tank shape and red
and black colour scheme, it also uses the
proven Silvan combination of a galvanized
steel chassis and a Polytuff rotationally-mould-
ed tank in 2000-litre or 4000L capacities".
The all-new G2 features the proven Glideflex
suspension system to ensure a smooth ride
regardless of whether the sprayer tank is full or
empty while another option includes the
Simplicity tandem axle system which shares
the load over both axles with each wheel able
to act independently of the other.
A quick turn tractor hitch is another popular
A key new feature is the roll out chemical
induction drawer which enables the addition
of mixing and transfer of orchard chemicals --
as powdered, granulated or liquid materials --
into the tank safely and easily.
These compounds are mixed and trans-
ferred by venturi action incorporated
into the induction hopper system.
The 300L capacity Polytuff flush tank,
centrally-mounted on the front of the
sprayer, is used to flush the pump, filters,
spray lines and nozzles at the end of the
There is also a 55L capacity hand wash
tank included, with an easy-to-use lever
tap for personal hygiene.
A key component of the Supaflo G2 is
the range of specialised Silvan IDS
diaphragm pump outputs, ranging from
161L a minute up to 249L/min at 50
Bar maximum pressure.
A heavy-duty two-speed soft engage
gearbox drives a choice of variable pitch
axle fan assemblies, while the Powerhead
air delivery options can include a choice
of four Radak conveyor configurations to
suit different canopy shapes and sizes.
Other significant innovations include
the choice of rate monitors or auto rate
controllers and ultrasonic tree sensors.
Mounted on the front of the sprayer,
the latter detects the canopy, trunks or
stakes and ensures the Supaflo G2 only
sprays the trees and vines and not the
spaces in between.
Consequently, valuable spray chemicals
are saved, tank refills are reduced, and
time and money saved.
The environment also benefits by hav-
ing the chemicals applied only to the
canopies and not sprayed into the air.

"I have been looking for a spray unit that could
easily cope with the varying distance from the
spray unit out to the start of the foliage," he said.
"I could see no sense in spraying large volumes
of air and spray to reach the younger trees.
"The GreenTech unit suits me perfectly because
this unit has the spray heads on vertical arms out
near the foliage. Furthermore, I can adjust these
vertical arms to be in ideal proximity to the
different aged trees in the different sectors.
"I particularly like the convenience of being able to
fold the vertical arms up or down from within the
cabin. This makes travel to and from the grove easier
and permits easy storage of the sprayer in the shed.
